Description

So I was messing around with a zelda ocarina of time rom, specifically the IQue version of it, and something I noticed with it was it has longer loading times between loading a new area, entering a loading zone, pausing, and equipping an item such as sword, shield etc. in comparison to a normal standard ocarina of time rom. I made a comparison video for both versions, in this comparison video, both games are on the latest version of bizhawk, 2.11 and all the settings are the same in both games as well.

I should also bring up too that I tried the IQue rom on Project 64, Parallel Launcher and on an actual Nintendo 64 via everdrive and I don't notice longer loading times on either, and in the comparison video, I do have the preferred core set to ares64 for both games, having it set to mupen 64 makes the loading time last even longer on the ique rom.

I have tried it on a slightly older version which was 2.8 and it also does the same thing.

I don't know if ique roms is something you guys mess with for bizhawk or not, but I wanted to bring this to somebody's attention in case if it's something that can be resolved and is in someone's interests of addressing it.

Here's the comparison video:

Research direction

Start by reproducing the loading-time comparison between the IQue and standard Ocarina of Time ROMs in BizHawk 2.11 with the ares64 core, then compare behavior with mupen 64 and the older 2.8 version. Use the linked comparison video and the reported loading zones, pause, and item-equipping cases to define the expected result. Done means the IQue version no longer has unexplained extra loading time.
