Description
Summary
Game freezes whenever a character (for example, Indy) is supposed to start talking. Most often during a cutscene but even a simple hurt sound from taking damage suffices. All other sounds like music, ambience or gun shots seems to work without any problems and don't freeze the game.
I've played this game in other mupen64plus-based emulators and this is the first time I have encountered this issue.
Repro
- Start the game and load into any level (except level 14 where Indy doesn't speak in the opening cutscene), for example level 1, "Canyonlands"
- Wait until Indy starts talking (in Canyonlands, you can tell he's about to do it because he touches his hat beforehand)
- Observe freeze
Host env.
- BizHawk 2.6.2; Win10; Intel i5-8300/NVIDIA GTX 1050Ti

Research direction
Start by reproducing the freeze in BizHawk 2.6.2 with Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, following the Canyonlands steps and checking a spoken line or hurt sound. Compare character speech behavior with music, ambience, and gunshots; done means speech begins without freezing while other audio remains unaffected.
