Description

It's really hard to see what you're looking for in the default printing of a ComponentMatrix. To help, we could:

  • Have the Axes show only the top-level components
  • Color columns and rows by top-level components with colors mixing appropriately as they cross (i.e. going plaid)
  • Print separators between blocks like BlockArrays does

Research direction

Start by locating the default printing entry point for ComponentMatrix and compare the requested separators with how BlockArrays prints blocks. Done means top-level components are shown in the Axes, row and column colors mix across components, and separators make the blocks visually distinct.
