Description

at the moment this depends on the unicode-xid crate, which is fine but could be removed in favor of lexer functions.

Research direction

Start by locating the library's uses of the unicode-xid crate, especially is_xid_start and is_xid_continue, then inspect the lexer functions that could replace them. Confirm which dependency and call sites would be removed, and verify that the lexer provides equivalent Unicode identifier behavior.
