Google Oauth login issues with desktop clients

I am using the official docker rocket.chat container and have configured it correctly so far with the only authentication method available being google. This works fine using web browsers (chrome or firefox) and seemingly works with the android app but can't get it to work with any desktop app - either rocket chats or a 3rd party like franz.

In the rocket chat desktop app, you click on the "g" button and another window appears, stays blank then disappears and an error saying "No matching login attempt found". The same occurs with the mac osx app.

With the Franz app, it loads up a browser window to authenticate but never completes the transaction so just sits there with a spinning wheel.

Any help is much appreciated.
