Description
It would be great if we could separately change the density of messages and whether or not threads are collapsed into their parents. This would allow for a looser look of messages while keeping channels looking tidy.

Research direction
Start by tracing the existing messageViewMode option and the UI code that controls whether threads collapse into their parents. The work is done when message density and thread collapsing can be changed independently, with both settings applied consistently to channel views.
