Research direction

Start by reproducing the autocomplete behavior described in the issue: try selecting an existing channel and a channel that does not exist, noting when the wrong channel is chosen. Trace the autocomplete flow from that reproduction; the work is done when nonexistent channels are not selected and existing channels consistently resolve to the correct channel.
