Description
It would be nice if we could add at least a simple mdadm support. It would be useful in server bootstrapping situations, and would nicely extend the possibilities around partition/LVM/mkfs.
p.s.: HW RAID controllers could also be supported separately via external modules, but probably mdadm could fit into the core functions.

Research direction
Start by locating the existing partition, LVM, and mkfs core functions referenced in the issue and review how they are tested. Define the mdadm operations needed for server bootstrapping and how they should fit into the core functions; done means documented behavior and coverage for the supported mdadm workflow.
