Start at ui/ext/DataStoreExt.kt:15 and follow the call from TroubleshootingViewModel.kt:38 for preference JSON import. Reproduce the failure on the reported Android configuration using the available stack trace; done means importing the preferences no longer raises the reported Gson JsonSyntaxException.
