Description

1. Environment

  • Device: [Redmi Note 9S]
  • OS: [Android 13]
  • APP: [0.9.8]

2. Describe the feature request

Some launchers let you swap out the Google Feed (that does not respect your choices and will try to shove its political Headers up your throat no matter how many times you hide them) with a custom feed provider, like https://github.com/NeoApplications/Neo-Feed or similar. There's also Discover Killer, an Xposed module that lets you do this very thing in any other launcher that supports Google Feed, like Pixel Launcher. But there is a surprising lack of apps that provide a replacement feed overlay, Neo Feed is like the only one - and it has no idea how to handle Mastodon's RSS feeds. Making Read You a feed provider would greatly enhance the user experience for anyone who wants to see, say, cats in their news feed. And there is a lot of people who like cats.

Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. Start by researching Android launcher feed-provider integration and comparing Neo-Feed and Discover Killer, which the issue references. Done would mean Read You can act as a launcher feed provider and handle feeds such as Mastodon RSS.
