Description

1. Environment

  • Device: [Pixel 6]
  • OS: [Android 10.1]
  • APP: [0.9.5]
  1. Feature to play play podcast and YouTube videos in background. Allowing instance for privacy concerned fellows would be nice.

(Want you've done some research before now)

At the time of request there weren't any decent YouTube client, new player Grayjay is great, Newpipe also announced major rebuild, I've not checked it though. Cloudstream also added invidious service.
As of podcast Snipd is great because of AI transcripts, not foss app.
A unified space for updates on all the stuff I care is great but native app build for singular purposes always have performance and maintenance advantage. I agree with @shuvashish76 on YouTube issues. For podcasts i don't know.

Research direction

No files, tests, or entry points are named. First clarify whether the scope covers both podcast and YouTube playback, background operation, and privacy concerns on Android 10.1; done would require an agreed design and working in-app playback for the defined sources.
