Description

It would be helpful when navigating to have some visual feedback about how deep or how high you are on a large scale. Equidistant surfaces tend to look equally curved beyond a certain size and it is difficult to find your way back to planar ground when you're on an equidistant.

Research direction

Start by locating the distance-fog rendering and the code that determines position relative to the ground plane; the issue does not name specific files or tests. Trace how fog colour is currently selected, then define completion as a visible colour change that communicates height or depth during navigation and remains useful on large-scale surfaces.
