Description

Suggestion Description

As mentioned in https://github.com/ROCm/gpu-operator/issues/150#issuecomment-2950922439 and https://github.com/ROCm/gpu-operator/issues/226#issuecomment-2950902966, v1.3.0 will support one-step Operator installation + configuration that adds a DeviceConfig automatically. However, by default in only support PF devices. It is desired to have two DeviceConfigs to support clusters with VF devices, or clusters with mixed PF and VF devices.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the linked issues and comments, then trace the v1.3.0 one-step Operator installation and automatic DeviceConfig flow. Done means the installation supports clusters with VF devices and mixed PF/VF devices by creating the required DeviceConfigs, while preserving PF-only support.
