Description

I researched several alternatives and I liked these two:

Buttercup https://buttercup.pw/: the standard unix password manager

  • Free
  • Has GUI
  • Has app
  • Can store database on cloud services, e.g. Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.

pass https://www.passwordstore.org/:

  • Free
  • Multiple platforms
  • Has GUI
  • Has app (kind of hard to setup)
  • Has CLI
  • Can version control with Git
  • Can store databse on Git hosts, e.g. GitHub.
  • Kind of hard to setup, unless you enjoy the teminal, ssh keys, and stuff.

The issue names Buttercup and pass but no repository file, format, or entry point. First inspect existing resources and contribution guidance to find where password-manager entries belong.
