Research direction
Start by locating the existing VLC video-player option and the code path used to open video URLs. Add a generic External Player choice that can launch any compatible player, then verify that video URLs open through that choice as well as through VLC.

Description

there should be a generic "External Player" option, so we can open videos with any video player that's capable of opening URLs.
