Research direction

Start by locating the theme's colour-based italic highlighting and reproduce the reported case with bibtex references alongside markdown emphasis. Done means italic colour styling is restricted to markdown emphasis and no longer applies broadly to bibtex references; the issue mentions no specific file or test.
