Description
Decision 1 of #92, unanswered since July 2026; it gates the largest Phase 1 win (HTML-only previews for lecture-python.myst, −7–7.8 min/PR) — that item is gated on this decision, not on effort.
If PR previews build HTML only, the PDF and ipynb download buttons on a preview point at assets from the last weekly cache build. Two questions to settle:
- Should the buttons show week-old assets with a stale note, or be hidden on previews?
- Is weekly detection of LaTeX breakage (with the #83 alerting now working, v0.11.0) an acceptable SLA, given per-PR pdflatex coverage disappears?
Context and savings arithmetic: #92 (Measured baseline / Phase 1) and PROJECT-OPTIMIZE-PREVIEWS.md.

Research direction
Read PROJECT-OPTIMIZE-PREVIEWS.md, then review the baseline and Phase 1 context in #92 and the LaTeX alerting status in #83. Resolve and document the preview-button and LaTeX-detection SLA decisions so the HTML-only preview work can proceed.
