Description

Should we add the concept of a projection into this get_coords function? Think rotpole transform for cordex for example.

I'd propose to have this as a separate issue, though!

Research direction

Start by locating the get_coords function and reviewing how it currently handles coordinates. Clarify the proposed projection concept, including the rotpole transform example for CORDEX, before deciding the scope. Done should mean that the agreed projection behavior is implemented and validated for the relevant coordinate inputs.
