Find the operating condition that produces the maximum temperature rise - (which is the maximum current going into the barrel jack)
Measure the temperature at the tab. (Actually at the very center of the tab where it will be hottest. )
Note all and various operating conditions such that another person could duplicate the measurement.
Requirement
The maximum junction temperature of any semiconductor shall be no more than 100C.
