Description
Edges are currently in dire need of some love to bring them in line with nodes. Notably they are currently singlethreaded, do not correctly filter and cannot be used to generate a lazy edge state.

Research direction
No files, tests, or entry points are named. Start by locating the edge implementation and comparing it with the node implementation, then determine the required approach for multithreading, filtering, and lazy edge-state generation; done means all three gaps are addressed consistently.
