Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points. First determine whether tubing replacement should be prompted from cumulative pumped volume, establish a safe threshold for rupture prevention, and identify the user-facing alert path. Done means the threshold and replacement behavior are agreed and covered by an appropriate test.
