Go back to the previous state after having clicked outside the popup of a markercluster group marker

Would it be possible to go back to the previous state (see the 3 markers in the markercluster group) after having clicked outside the marker's popup?

Goal: go back to

Reproduce the behavior with the provided markersList data in local mode using the Knobs setup, then trace the markercluster group marker and popup outside-click handling. Done means closing or clicking outside the popup restores the previous view showing the three markers in the cluster.
