Description
Describe the bug
WSLg apps disappear when I connect to a VPN server with OpenVPN. The processes of these apps keep running but no UI at all.
To Reproduce
- Run a GUI app under WSL2v2 Ubuntu distro.
- Connect to a VPN server.
Expected behavior
WSLg apps keep running normally.
Version information (please complete the following information):
- OS: Windows 11 10.0.22631.2506, WSL2 Ubuntu 22.04, WSL version: 2.0.6.0
- OpenVPN version: 2.6.5
- OpenVPN GUI: 11.43.0.0
It seems that WSLg uses network connections to communicate with the Linux subsystem and these connections got interrupted on VPN connection.

Research direction
No source file or test is identified. Start by reproducing the issue with WSL2 Ubuntu, WSLg, OpenVPN 2.6.5, and OpenVPN GUI 11.43.0.0, then determine which network connection between WSLg and the Linux subsystem is interrupted; done means WSLg apps remain visible after VPN connection.
