Description
You can make an autostart
.desktopfile in~/.config/autostart/, assuming the DE/WM supports it

Worth noting that /etc/xdg/autostart/ exists as well, though using that folder seems less sane in case of misbehaving display managers (login managers)

Research direction
Start by reading the linked freedesktop.org autostart specification and inspect the Jekyll site's existing Linux setup documentation. Add guidance covering ~/.config/autostart/ and the noted /etc/xdg/autostart/ alternative, with the result clearly explaining the relevant caveats for supported desktop environments and display managers.
