Description
Hi!
I am working on an OpenRefine tutorial for some Biodiversity Heritage Library things and bumped into an error in a new installation. You may follow the step by step on:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/18jVwiOsqxFoMAHJnJ864iTBcQx39ZliLefmQh26uZpg/edit?tab=t.0
But basically I got this error:
Because I had the extension but I had not enabled the Commons standard reconciliation service, i.e. https://commonsreconcile.toolforge.org/en/api
, After I enabled it, it all worked fine.
It could be maybe fixed by (1) auto-adding the service when the extension is activated or (2) adding some more descriptive error handling.
Let me know if I can help in any way,
Cheers!
Tiago

Research direction
Reproduce the failure by following the linked tutorial with the Commons extension enabled but the Commons standard reconciliation service disabled at https://commonsreconcile.toolforge.org/en/api. Then inspect the extension activation and error-handling paths; done means this setup either enables the service automatically or reports a descriptive, actionable error.
