Description

This issue is imported from pivotal - Originaly created at Jul 8, 2020 by Raoul Teeuwen

Currently, we use 'type' in Jira to show link request in SURFconext dashboard. We find that sometimes SURF employees have a good reason to change the Jira ticket type to for instance 'sub-ticket'. This however overwrites the type 'SSI Link Invitation'. We wonder whether there is a better mechanism that does not have this drawback. Maybe use Jira labels? Adding a custom field feels like a risk (better stay with out of the box Jira functionality as far as possible?)

Research direction

Start by locating the current Jira integration that uses the issue type to identify link requests. Compare Jira labels and other out-of-the-box options described in the issue, then define how the chosen mechanism preserves link-request detection when the Jira type changes. Done means the mechanism is selected and, if feasible, implemented without losing that detection.
