Description

Describe the problem

There is no mention of the fact that the intel-npu-driver module is implicitly included in your config through the perl activation script.

https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/blob/cddf5bde70fbf1dfe75aedb684277d66d1ab53a1/nixos/modules/installer/tools/nixos-generate-config.pl#L208-L216

I just spent an hour following a long cookie trail of issues regarding the corresponding package after adding it to hardware.firmware caused my build to fail.

Research direction

Start by reading the linked hardware/cpu/intel-npu.nix module and nixos-generate-config.pl lines 208-216 to understand how intel-npu-driver is included. Locate the relevant NixOS manual section for generated configuration or hardware.firmware, then document this implicit inclusion and the resulting configuration constraint.
