Description
Describe the bug
With more recent remix updates, me and other people noticed that having an FG multiplier larger than 2x feels somewhat off. I have Intel Presentmon running to see if FG is actually producing frames. I have a 120hz display.
Eg. in GTA4 with a baseline framerate of ~30fps (cpu limited) - no framerate cap in the game nor via nvidia app or dxvk.conf - no vsync - no gsync or freesync active
- No FG: choppy - 27fps (intel)
- FG 2x: pretty smooth - 56fps (intel)
- FG 3x: still smooth but a little stuttery - 81fps (intel)
- FG 4x: still smooth but even more stuttery / feeling off - 96fps (intel)
- FG 6x: almost no smoothing - almost feels like no FG but with added delay - 146fps (intel)
Baseline framerate of 60fps still slightly cpu bottlenecked:
- FG 2x: very, very smooth - 100fps (intel)
- FG 3x: very, very smooth
- FG 4x: very, very smooth
- FG 5x: less smooth, a little choppy
- FG 6x: still feels like no FG - much worse than 2x - 240fps (intel)
Using throttle presents in the remix dev tab - set to 40ms (same game scene as above which would be at 60fps):
- 2x: much better than no FG
- 4x: I think I can "see" more frames but it feels a lot less smooth than 2x?
- 6x: still better than no FG but worse than 4x and much more worse than 2x
Would love to present some footage but its almost impossible to record / see on footage.
I'd say its only really noticeable with a base framerate of 60 or below. Noticed it in GTA4, Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.
Others also reported weird frametime feeling with FG above 2x. I think 4x FG was fine for me at one point but I'm not totally sure about that.
CR (from the discord community) said he has seen it on:
Skate 3, Garry's Mod RTX, UnityRTX, and BetaRT
How do you reproduce the bug?
Switch between FG modes with a base framerate of around 30 to 60
What is the expected behavior?

Research direction
Start by reproducing the issue in build 1319 with a 30–60 FPS base rate, switching between 2x, 4x, and 6x FG in GTA4, Portal 2, or Left 4 Dead 2. Use Intel PresentMon and the Remix dev-tab present throttle to compare frame pacing and perceived smoothness. Done means the higher-multiplier behavior is explained and corrected or narrowed to a documented, reproducible runtime issue.
