Describe the bug

The nvidia kernel module produces a kernel panic on shutdown after being updated 580.95.05 -> 580.105.08. See the linked forum post for the logs.

To Reproduce

Turn off the laptop normally, no special requirements.

Bug Incidence

Always

More Info

This issue DOES appear in the closed source version of the driver without the kernel modules, see reported in the forum, though with significantly distinct logs. For that reason I decided to report here as well, as it is explicitly a failing assert in the open kernel modules. If not appropriate, just close this.

UPDATE

2025-03-12: this issue persists in 580.126.18. It is however NOT present in 590.48.01 nor 595.45.04 anymore (in all cases, now within kernel 6.12.76)

Research direction

Start with nvidia-bug-report.log.gz and the linked forum report, comparing the shutdown panic across driver versions 580.105.08, 580.126.18, 590.48.01, and 595.45.04. Confirm whether the failure is still reproducible on the stated kernel and determine whether an actionable regression remains; the issue is no longer observed in the later versions mentioned.
