Description
NVIDIA Open GPU Kernel Modules Version
Arch Linux package nvidia-open-dkms version 515.65.01-11
Does this happen with the proprietary driver (of the same version) as well?
No
Operating System and Version
Arch Linux
Kernel Release
Linux minerva 5.15.67-1-lts #1 SMP Thu, 08 Sep 2022 12:59:52 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux. Standard Arch Linux LTS kernel
Hardware: GPU
GPU 0: Quadro RTX 3000 (UUID: GPU-a1094c4b-5e29-ad89-73d8-14ef079ba5c8)
Describe the bug
On the Lenovo Thinkpad P15 Gen1 with the nvidia-open drivers the laptop hangs on resume.
X never comes back, there is a blinking terminal cursor. Trying to switch VT results in a completely black screen. Fortunately I could SSH in.
reboot does not work. I have to hold down the power button to turn off the computer.
To Reproduce
- Suspend laptop (by closing lid).
- Resume laptop.
Bug Incidence
Always
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz
nvidia-bug-report.sh just hangs. I reran with --safe-mode and --extra-system-data.
More Info
Attached dmesg from resume: dmesg.txt
- I use atomic mode setting (
nvidia-drm.modeset=1). Disabling this makes no difference to the observable behaviour but does change the message indmesgslightly: dmesg-no-modeset.txt It still reports the same backtrace ultimately. - I use optimus-manager. The system is running in pure nvidia mode (not hybrid, as I had stability issues with hybrid on the closed source driver).
I use Cinnamon under X11 on Arch Linux.

Research direction
Start by reviewing the attached dmesg.txt and nvidia-bug-report.log.gz, then reproduce the suspend and resume steps on the specified ThinkPad and GPU setup. Done means the system resumes without the X11 hang, black VT, or required forced power-off.
