Description
NVIDIA Open GPU Kernel Modules Version
590.48.01
Please confirm this issue does not happen with the proprietary driver (of the same version). This issue tracker is only for bugs specific to the open kernel driver.
- I confirm that this does not happen with the proprietary driver package.
(Not applicable, as there is only the open driver for the 5000 series - maybe remove that checkbox?)
Operating System and Version
Fedora 43
Kernel Release
6.18.7-200.fc43.x86_64
Please confirm you are running a stable release kernel (e.g. not a -rc). We do not accept bug reports for unreleased kernels.
- I am running on a stable kernel release.
Hardware: GPU
GeForce RTX 5800 Laptop
Describe the bug
When launching Oblivion Remasted and loading a save game, it freezes after no more than 5 seconds and the kernel module complains:
NVRM: Xid (PCI:0000:64:00): 109, pid=1023029, name=GameThread, channel 0x0000000b, errorString CTX SWITCH TIMEOUT, Info 0xcc008
It is not possible to close the game as it entirely hangs. Only kill -9 works. When restarting the game after kill -9, the kernel seems to be now in a weird state and it freezes in the menu almost immediately.
To Reproduce
Start Oblivion Remastered using Proton Experimental, load a save game.
Bug Incidence
Always
nvidia-bug-report.log.gz
It's impossible to run nvidia-bug-report.sh, as the kernel module seems to bring the kernel into such a broken state that nvidia-bug-report.sh immediately crashes the entire system.

Please let me know if there is anything else you want me to try or anything other than running nvidia-bug-report.sh.

Research direction
No source file or test is named. Start by reproducing the freeze with Fedora 43, kernel 6.18.7-200.fc43.x86_64, driver 590.48.01, Proton Experimental, and Oblivion Remastered, then investigate the reported NVRM Xid 109 CTX SWITCH TIMEOUT. Done means identifying a reproducible driver cause and validating a fix without leaving the kernel module in a broken state.
