Research direction

The issue does not name files or tests. Inspect the existing all-to-one and one-to-all read/write tests for CE and SM, then trace how test cases are organized and what bidirectional coverage would mean; done when the need for an all-to-one bidirectional test is established and the relevant test scope is documented or implemented.
