Description
The layout heuristics which depend on the original image size and the image aspect ratio do not always do the best job of filling in the available map space.
Current workaround is to use cartography mode which uses a different layout algorithm.

Research direction
Start by locating the Gigapixel image-mode layout heuristics that use original image size and aspect ratio, then compare their behavior with cartography mode. Reproduce cases where the overview is smaller than the available map space and verify that the layout fills more of that space without losing the intended image view.
