Description
Demonstration of a higher resolution (C384 deterministic, C192 ensemble) cycling system using hybrid 4DEnVar to show the capability to perform experiments similar to the parallel experiments performed currently by DA developers in the fully GSI-based system. This will be a hybrid 4DEnVar atmosphere only (Prototype P3). This system will be mature enough such that an initial evaluation of the observation-space and long range forecast statistics could be evaluated.
Deliverables
Capability in NCEP’s global-workflow develop branch to cycle a high resolution, fully JEDI-based global forecast system including short ensemble forecasts
Moderate resolution near real time parallel cycling system running on WCOSS2 that produces short term forecasts for demonstration purposes
