Related problems

In the Layer tool, a Layer group and individual Layers (vector or raster) can display a description field. However, these descriptions must be populated manually or via the API, which can be tedious and overwhelming when there are 100s of layers and layer groups.

Describe the feature request

I want to be able to put in a URL to a markdown file that contains the description I want a Layer group or Layer to have. The markdown file can be located either internally within the mission directory structure or remotely via an external link.

Research direction

Start at the Layer tool and trace how descriptions for layer groups and individual vector or raster Layers are populated, including the API path. Done means a Layer or Layer group can load its description from a Markdown URL located in the mission directory or at an external link, including missions with many layers.
