Description

Describe the feature/enhancement you need

I recently found that my WebView2 version is outdated, despite that I do weekly manual update on my system (windows update, ms-edge, winget --upgrade-available, etc). Note that I have been in a metered-connection mode for several months now, as I've been in a remote area that out-of-reach from broadband.

Seems like there is no way to manually trigger the built-in update mechanism on metered-mode.

The scenario/use case where you would use this feature

Under continuous metered-connection mode, yet want an easy way to have WebView2 keep updated.

How important is this request to you?

Impactful. My app's user experience would be significantly compromised without it.

Suggested implementation

Include WebView2 update into ms-edge manual update process (Help > About).

Or maybe include it in windows update?

Or maybe publish the update into winget?

What does your app do? Is there a pending deadline for this request?

Research direction

The issue names WebView2, metered-connection mode, Microsoft Edge's Help > About flow, Windows Update, and winget, but no repository files or tests. Start by determining which update mechanism owns WebView2 and whether a supported manual trigger exists. Done would be a clearly defined, supported way to update WebView2 while metered mode is enabled.
