Solve incompatibilities with latest version of Node types

Some of our stream code (and the dependencies we use) is incompatible with the latest version of Node types. Because of this, we currently use a pinned version of `@types/node`. We should figure out how to solve the incompatibilities.

Start by locating the pinned @types/node version and the stream code and dependencies that fail with the latest Node types. Reproduce the incompatibilities, then verify that the pin can be updated without stream-related type errors or dependency failures.
