Description

### What is this about?

As current, MetaMask meets the definition of a digital asset broker in proposed IRS regulation.

This means Consensys will require to collect names, addresses, and social security numbers of all users of MetaMask, or proof of foreign residence for those outside USA. And each transaction will need to be reported to the IRS.

This issue is opened to discuss removing the trade features (which most people never use) from MetaMask so it can continue to operate without becoming subject to those regulations.

---

This also has an impact on MetaMask's business model. Since MetaMask only generates income for its owner through these trades (if not selling customer information) this means the MetaMask extension will no longer be a viable business.

Discussion of a path forward for MetaMask after it is no longer a viable profitable business are also in-scope to discuss here.

Research direction

The issue names no files, tests, or entry points; first locate the extension's trade feature and the UI buttons it proposes removing. The scope is still a discussion about regulatory and business consequences, so a completed change and validation criteria are not defined.
