seg fault when compiling in HPC mirror configuration on later linux version (>= ubuntu 22)

While building a test case to model hpc-mirroring, I found that when trying to build some code (written in C) the compiler crashes (segmentation fault.) From the messages, I think this is related to link processing added in the latest version.

* follow setup instructions.
* go into ~/fakeplace, git clone https://github.com/MetPX/sarrac metpx-sr3c
* make

Run the listed sr3-examples setup, hpc-mirroring configuration, and make command on Ubuntu 22 or later. Start with run_profile.sh, the cpost/mirror configuration, and the sr_post.c compiler invocation, then use the debug logs to distinguish the missing-file failure from the later segmentation fault. Done means make completes without the compiler or shim crashing.
