Notifications are no longer sent to me

I attached my email to my profile settings so the site can send me notifications about whoever followed me or sent private messages to me (except notifications of whoever liked my posts because i don't care about that as much as i care about the other two).

The site used to send me emails and it was really helpful because it worked well, but nowadays the site doesn't send me emails anymore. And i don't even know exactly when it started to stop sending me emails.

It has actually been happening for a long time now but i ignored it because i chose to do so, but now it's bugging me because whenever i chat with someone via private messages it doesn't send me notification emails and that sometimes drives me to think that my chat partner doesn't want to reply to me when that's not the case.

Well if my chat partner is an active chatter and replies to me within a day then that may be fine because i can just check their profile everyday. But the problem is that there are some users who replied to me after a week or even a month and i didn't realize it, so i checked their profile only to see that they already replied to me weeks or months ago.

Another problem is that if the one who starts the chat isn't me. So i can't know whenever somebody wants to talk to me.
