Description

Bill Furnish was working on a conservative garbage collector for M2 when he died. It would be good to see whether the ideas in it are worth bringing to fruition. It would replace libgc and be better adapted to working threads.

Research direction

Start by reviewing the linked cgc1 project and how M2 currently uses libgc. Investigate whether its conservative collection approach is suitable for working threads and can replace libgc. Done would mean a validated plan or implementation for bringing the collector into M2.
