Description

In running multi_to_single, some information is lost.

In particular, empty segments are converted to NaNs in the out object's signals array, but the limits of the known empty segments are not propagated.

There are probably other cases too.

Research direction

Start by tracing the multi_to_single conversion and how empty segments become NaNs in the output object's signals array. Check which segment limits are available at conversion time; done means preserving the known empty-segment limits and identifying whether other information is also lost.
