Description

Hello,

Is there an official or recommended mapping between MIMIC-IV itemids and LOINC codes?

I found discussions suggesting conversion from MIMIC-IV itemids → MIMIC-III ITEMIDs → LOINC. However, this multi-step mapping seems potentially error-prone, especially for clinical predictive modeling where semantic accuracy is important.

Could you please clarify:

Whether a direct MIMIC-IV → LOINC mapping exists?

If not, what is the recommended best practice?

Thank you for your guidance.

Research direction

The issue names no file, test, or entry point. Start by checking the repository’s documentation and MIMIC-IV data dictionaries for itemid and LOINC references, then verify whether they document a direct mapping or a recommended conversion path. Done means adding a clear, authoritative answer with supporting repository references.
