Description

Description:

On export, the very first note of an external synth, or even the built in sampler, plays incorrectly - it sounds like it is played back at too high a speed (or in reverse; it's hard to tell). It also shows up when you initially open LMMS and the piano roll for a synth (I've been using Synth1). The very first time you select a note it will play incorrectly, but after that, it will play correctly.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Open LMMS, add a vst (I've been using Synth1), then open the piano roll, Mark any note to play it, and it will sound incorrect, repeat the process and it will play correctly thereafter. The very first time playing a song in the LMMS song editor (load song and play immediately) the problem will sometimes be present. If it is, then playing again, the problem disappears.

2) Open a saved project and export as a sound file, same happens with any file type and bit-rate setting. Exporting seems to reset whatever is causing the issue, making the issue appear in the exported sound file. Unlike in the song editor, the export always seems to trigger the problem. To make the issue apparent, start exporting and then cancel, go straight to the piano roll and click a note, it should sound incorrect, clicking again and it's fine.

My work around is to play all of the instruments, with a single short note, once, right at the start, then leave a gap, so that the exported file can have that part removed.

LMMS Version 1.2.1 used, although the issue also appears in earlier versions to some degree.
Running windows 7 Enterprise, 32-bit OS.

Research direction

Start by reproducing the first-note problem in the piano roll and during export using the described Synth1 or sampler setup on LMMS 1.2.1. Compare the first playback after opening or exporting with subsequent playback; done means the initial note sounds correct in both cases without the workaround.
