GLTF LoD external url reference

I'm wondering if it's possible to reference an external gltf as an url in a gltf file.

My use case is the following:

In the context of LoD over network, it would make sense to have only the lowest resolution contained in the gltf, and then load the higher levels (from an external url) only when needed.
