Touchscreen and mouse conflict

I've been testing some visualizations (JS programs written on KA's site) that I'm planning to include in articles. They work fine for the mouse. I can use my Windows 8.1 touchscreen on them. If I then try to use the mouse again, though, there is no response.

Reproduce the issue with the linked Khan Academy visualization on a Windows 8.1 touchscreen: use the mouse, switch to touch input, then try the mouse again. Trace the browser input handling for the live visualization and verify that mouse interaction still responds after touch interaction.
