Research direction
Start by reviewing the tangent types in ChainRulesCore.jl and the behavior proposed in Functors.jl#20. Determine whether Functors.jl is an acceptable lightweight dependency, then confirm that the tangent types support the requested functor behavior and document the dependency decision.
