Research direction

Start by locating the definitions and uses of ParentLinks and SiblingLinks, then inspect how tree traversal currently represents children. Done means a ChildrenLinks trait is specified and integrated consistently with the stated parent/children relationship, with matching coverage where the existing traits are tested.
