Description
Update: Collecting package wishlist issues here, to be split out into actionable issues from the fireplace
It was brought up on slack that having a section dedicated to a list of desired packages and applications might be useful. Examples include:
- A Julia version of DS9 with both a package and a binary application
- Related work: SAOImagesDS9.jl, XPA.jl, SAMP.jl, AstroImageView.jl
- We should note that DS9 is no longer being funded so is unlikely to be maintained in the foreseeable future and it has bugs that are unlikely to be fixed.
- An AstroArchives.jl package to download data queried from VirtualObservatory.jl
- e.g., querying TESS TPFs from MAST
- A package for ASDF I/O (I think ASDF2.jl may address this already?)
- A Julia version of XRADIO (This may fall under the purview of the Radio Astronomy Group currently being formed)
- Create a package containing radiative process models, such as blackbody, bremsstrahlung, gyrosynchrotron, synchrotron, line and collisional emission, and ionization rates. Such a package will provide a set of validated and optimized models for use in data analysis, similar to the SpecialFunction.jl package.
