Description
With the latest release candidate of .NET 5, I'd like to update the project from .NET Core 3.1 and tackle the move to C# 9 at the same time to utilize some of the new features (a.k.a. record types).

Research direction
Start by auditing the project’s current .NET Core 3.1 and C# configuration, then identify the application areas affected by the framework and language upgrade. Done means the project targets .NET 5, builds successfully with C# 9, and the requested new-language features can be used without unresolved compatibility issues.
